In my 20 years of PT practice, I have repeatedly seen stress as the major cause of pain, injury, illness and disease. In order to assist people with healing of all aspects of their lives I have been focusing on integrative/complementary medicine in recent years. I feel conventional medicine tends to focus too much on the physical, seeing the body as a machine or system of "parts". This led me to study and expand my practice to include yoga, and to become a Reiki Master/Teacher.
Reiki (pronounced "ray-key") is a hands-on energy healing technique for stress reduction and relaxation that also promotes healing of mind, body and spirit.
"Rei" means universal life force energy. "Ki" (same meaning as "chi" or "prana") is the vital life force energy that flows through all living beings. Pain and disease result when that energy is low or blocked by physical, emotional, or spiritual distress. Reiki restores the natural flow of energy.
There is research being done on Reiki with promising results. It has been shown to lower blood pressure and respiration rate, invoke a profound relaxation response, reduce the need for pain medication, speed recovery time after injury or surgery, decrease depression, in addition to many other benefits. It is currently being used in health care settings in conjunction with traditional medical techniques.
Reiki is administered by a gentle "laying on of the hands" as the practitioner acts as an open channel for this life energy. The Reiki removes energy blocks and balances the person's energy system. This promotes the body's self-healing ability and provides a sense of peace and well-being. Clients are fully clothed during sessions and in a comfortable position.
A one-hour session is $65.
Offered in-home.
